The annual Open Enrollment Period is over for 2016, but you may be able to get the health insurance you need IF you have a life event that qualifies you for a Special Enrollment Period. Over the next several blogs, I plan to highlight these events.

You may qualify for a Special Enrollment Period if you lost qualifying health coverage in the past 60 days OR expect anyone in your household to lose coverage in the next 60 days.

Coverage losses that may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period:

  • Job based coverage
  • Individual health coverage you bought on your own
  • Eligibility for Medicare or CHIP
  • Coverage through a family member

Remember, you will need to provide the Insurance company, valid proof, through documentation, of your loss of credible health care coverage. They want to know why and when you lost your credible health care coverage.

Stay tuned for our next blog about getting health care coverage outside of Open Enrollment.
